Isopropyl-β-d-thiogalactoside, English name IPTG. As a placebo inducer, X-gal was used as a chromogenic substrate, and both were used together for blue-white spot screening. IPTG can induce the synthesis of an amino-terminal fragment of β-galactosidase from the lac operon DNA segment of the vector, which can achieve intragenic complementation (α-complementation) with the defective β-galactosidase encoded by the host cell. Bacteria achieving alpha complementation exposed to IPTG and spread on medium containing X-gal chromogenic substrate formed blue colonies. The insertion of exogenous DNA into the polyclonal site of the plasmid can destroy the α complementation, and white colonies will be produced.

Solubility: The IPTG storage solution was first dissolved in 8ml distilled water for 2g, dissolved to 10ml, filtered through a 0.22um filter to remove bacteria, and stored at -20℃.
